RE California is a partnership between MetroList and SFAR. It allows these three Northern California MLSs to share meaningful data. They have rebuilt their databases using the RESO Data Dictionary as the core and the RESO API as the means to transport data.
The 2007 experiment ended the need to pay multiple subscription fees and create separate logins to view the wide range of homes in the region. The cooperating organizations made it a point to improve the ease of use, system seamlessness, and instant synchronization during 2016-2017.
They chose to use the RESO Database Dictionary instead of a single monolithic database because they wanted to preserve their autonomy and maintain local contacts. They spent two years mapping data in such a way that they could create unique user interfaces for local customs, and also support local fields using the Data Dictionary standard.
Rapattoni MLS created an engine that routes users to a 26-county-specific listing input system. The Rapattoni API is used to push the listing to all RE California databases immediately after submission.
It has been a great experience for regional MLS subscribers. They have been able choose their home MLS of preference, and area MLSs and associations have been able retain their independence. The data sharing has become more efficient and richer over time.
Four additional MLSs joined the NORCAL MLS (r) Alliance: Contra Costa Association of REALTORS (r), Bay East Association of REALTORS, bridgeMLS, and MLSListings. The alliance allows MLS users to have access to data from multiple MLSs within their own home MLS system. This gives real estate professionals and their clients the best access to Northern California listing data.
